It must be an age thing – waking up every morning, having a look in my wardrobe and heading for the big fluffy caterpillar biker boots instead of my KG spike heels. There once was a day that the thoughts of wearing flats to work would instil the fear of God in me. And off I’d go, teetering around happily, content in the knowledge that I looked four inches taller than I really was, and felt like I was on some sort of mission at all times. I didn’t feel the discomfort then, or if I did, I was too high on being 25, rushing out for smoke breaks to ease myself through my highly stressful day as a broadcast journalist for a local radio station.
Now, not only is my morning dilemma filled with thoughts of trying to get through all the clothes in my wardrobe…but also, what makes me look slimmest, what’s ‘now’, what’s warm and comfy. Over the years, I’ve tried out dozens of jumpers and cardigans, and none have come close to my Massimo Dutti cashmere jumper. A bit pricier than most, I’ll admit, but the cosiness is worth it. Zara used to be the source of all my cardigans and tops, but the quality doesn’t seem to be as good as it used to. M&S quality is pretty good, and I like their cashmere cardis and jumpers, but the fit leaves a lot to be desired. Gap does some fab cardigans and little jumpers – they’re a great fit, wear really well, and are just slightly more expensive than Zara.
It’s seriously worth investing a little more in these wardrobe essentials, especially seeing as they’re worn all year round in the this country!
