Synonymous with Galway summers is the Summer Festival Race Meeting at the Galway Races, renowned worldwide for its electric atmosphere, excellent racing and infectious sense of fun from 26 July to 1 August.

A full week of fun, racing, style and craic, The Galway Races is a festival for everyone. Running for seven consecutive days starting from the last Monday in July, over 15,000 people are expected to descend on the racecourse throughout the week. Thousands more will flock through the streets of the city where the party will continue into the early hours.

Last year, the total prize fund for the fifty-one sponsored races reached an impressive €1.7 million. If you fancy a flutter while at the course, there are various options for placing a bet at the Galway Races; the Tote, on-course betting shops and on-course bookmakers.

Druid’s celebrates its 35th birthday this year with a very special event, FROM GALWAY TO BROADWAY AND BACK AGAIN, for two nights only at Galway’s Town Hall Theatre on May 21st and 22nd.

Directed by Garry Hynes and Mikel Murfi, some of Ireland’s leading actors, including Marie Mullen, Denis Conway, Cillian Murphy, Derbhle Crotty, Sean McGinley and Eamon Morrissey, will recreate moments from a selection of Druid’s most memorable productions ranging from The Playboy of the Western World to Bailegangaire and The Beauty Queen of Leenane to The Walworth Farce.

Be prepared to laugh, cry, love and hate all in one night. The first ten storytellers picked from the hat have five minutes to take to the stage with a story that must be unscripted and your own.
